God gives us all the freedom to make choices. In scripture, the choices are positive and negative like choices between death and life and blessing and cursing.
Deuteronomy 30:19 (NKJV)
19 I call heaven and earth as witnesses today against you, that I have set before you life and death, blessing and cursing; therefore choose life, that both you and your descendants may live;
The angels also have the freedom to make choices. They choose daily whether to follow God or not just like we do. Before he became the devil, Lucifer chose to progressively rebel against God. There were points in his path just like there are points in all of our paths which we call crossroads moments: he could literally have changed his choice and mind to obey and follow God instead of himself. The sad thing is, his choices transformed him internally from the love he was created to the evil, selfish, unloving, unholy, destructive, deceitful being he is today. That’s a lesson to us all because we could choose to progressively not choose God but our own way just like satan did and does. For him, there is no turning back, since his choice led him to commit the unpardonable sin. Let this be a warning to us all that going away from God is progressive and can lead to our worst nightmare: an eternity without Him.
So, let us examine ourselves on a regular basis to take our spiritual temperatures and see that our relationship with God is firmly rooted and grounded in Him and not ourselves, this world or any other thing that can rob us of the ultimate blessing.
2 Corinthians 13:5(NKJV)
5 Examine yourselves as to whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Do you not know yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you are disqualified.
Let’s Pray: Father God, help all who are Yours remain Yours now and for eternity. Be with us as we seek Your kingdom daily so that those precious words uttered to the sheep in Matthew 25 can resound and ring in our ears as well: “Well done, good and faithful servant. Enter into the joy of the Lord”. May Your joy and our joy be fulfilled. In Jesus’ name, amen.
