There’s something about the person who lives the Godly life as opposed to the one who talks about living the Godly life that makes an impact on all. It’s about spiritual credibility. Which one would you listen to?
It’s no accident that the Apostle Paul encouraged those with unbelieving mates to live Godly lives. He wrote that their example could result in their mates turning to God and establishing a relationship with Him. Did it occur to you that your example could make a similar impact on someone in your life? It’s an example of being love as God is, of connecting without preaching or talking about God and scripture. It’s your actions and love that bring the message.
Have you noticed to whom young believers turn when they seek someone to model? It’s the one who lives a quiet, peaceful and Godly life. Sure, sometimes a young one in the faith can be impressed with words instead of actions and being, but that soon changes.
How can you tell a believer is a good spiritual model for you? First, ask God the Holy Spirit for the gift of wisdom and discernment. Then use the following scriptures as a guideline: 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Galatians 5:22-23.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, 23 gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.
Ask God the Holy Spirit (after all, He is the one who guides your spiritual walk) for help in seeing if the person you seek to model has these attributes. You see, you are looking to those who are love as God is, and these scriptures detail the characteristics of that love. As time goes on, you will notice that you are being changed to reflect those attributes, too. God is re-creating you from the inside out just like He is the one you want to model.
My prayer for you today is that new believers find a good spiritual model and mature believers yield themselves to be transformed into the kinds of instruments God can use powerfully. That’s today’s encouraging word.
