Scripture says God created us in His image or likeness. Part of that is that we have emotions like He does and that we have the capacity not only to experience these emotions but to express them. So, Jesus was God in the flesh. Was He a hugger? If He were here in the flesh today, would He be a hugger?
Well, I believe God is a hugger, and that when Pastor G and I and all of you that are His appear before Him for eternity, there will be one huge group hug! That’s the first thing I want to do when I see Jesus, hug Him! Yes, He is my Lord and my Savior, but He is also my Friend, Chief Encourager and Constant Companion. He is so deserving of that hug, and I believe He will appreciate it big time!
The Apostle John clearly showed us in his nonsexual intimacy with Christ that Jesus allowed and welcomed close physical contact. (John 13:23) Perhaps He hugged those that followed Him on a regular basis. Perhaps He comforted His friends Mary and Martha after the death of their brother with nonsexual tenderness and intimacy through gentle, compassionate hugs. We won’t know for sure in this life, but we can see clues not only as to whom Jesus reached out to but how they responded.
Jesus said that if we see or know Him, we know God the Father and, by extrapolation, we know God the Holy Spirit. So, Pastor G and I look forward to not only hugging Jesus but God the Father and God the Holy Spirit as well! That’s going to be some mighty beautiful beginning to an eternity with God.
How about you? Do you look forward to hugging Jesus?
