Are you a bridge or a barrier to God?

God uses Pastor G and me online a lot to comfort, counsel and encourage.  We are thrilled to be used for His purposes and feel truly blessed that God has equipped  and empowered us to be there for others in this way.  People share that they feel safe with us and that we encourage as opposed to attack, rebuke and accuse when they have made mistakes in their Christian walk.  Somehow, some (or most) spiritual leaders don’t understand how to be positive forces of change in people’s lives.  Not only that, they see God only as a harsh, demanding judge who sternly rebukes and punishes those who stray from following Him and living His way of life.  They tend to forget that God is love at His very core and that He bears the characteristics found in 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 and Galatians 5:22-23.

It takes a mature believer to embrace what love is all about, since most of us hail from dysfunctional families.  It’s probably from these dysfunctional families that the idea of a harsh, unyielding tyrant of a God comes from.  Many moms and dads come across like that.  The miracle is that God shows us who He truly is.  Can we all embrace that or do we choose to remain in our comfort zones and false assumptions of how God is?

Encouraging Scripture: Galatians 6:1-2

Brethren, if a man is overtaken in any trespass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness, considering yourself lest you also be tempted. Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.

Let’s Pray

Father God, I pray that all who have been led to read the words of this post take the challenge to heart and begin to transcend false teachings and beliefs about You to see You as You truly are.  May lives be changed because of this, and may people grow ever more secure in You and in embracing the characteristics that truly make You who You are and what You transform us daily into becoming.  Let us all be instruments of Your love, mercy and faith.  In Jesus’ name, amen.

This is today’s encouraging and transforming word.  May it encourage and transform you so you can be God’s instrument in encouraging and transforming those He sends across your path.

Thank you for this post. This is such an important teaching.

This world always attempts to transform people to live according to its standard. What is much worse, though, is that the people of this world who have not bowed a knee to the Lord Jesus are constantly trying to change His people into a false image. This world is a world of posers, and they do not appreciate someone bearing the image of God. They do the same with God. They have a false image of Him that they embrace, and attempt to put false images of God’s people upon them as well. As believers, we must fight against this.

Blessings to you for this encouraging and transforming word.

    • I never know which post God will lead to place on the blog, RJ. Bottom line, God’s people and even those who call themselves God’s people, need to learn what love truly is. Love connects and edifies and does not seek to alienate or rebuke. The only difference that occurs is in Matthew 22&23 where Christ rebukes the Pharisees for their legalism and lack of love. Unfortunately, most chose not to change even with this confrontation and caused the death of the One who could truly set them free to love.
