What defines you as a Christian?

This is a great question worth thinking, praying and journaling about.  Do you know what Jesus said about how people can tell you follow Him?  Is it something you do?  Is it how you wear your clothes or the kinds of things you own?  What is it about you that stands out that’s noticeable to all and proof to all that you follow Jesus and live His way of life?

Give up?  It’s simple but not always easy.  Jesus told His disciples that “by this shall all men know that you are My disciples: if you love one another.”  Do you love your Christian brothers and sisters even if you don’t agree with them?  Differences in denominational doctrine and styles of worship can divide Christian brothers and sisters, but they don’t have to.  Love unites.  Love bonds.  Love sees beyond words into hearts.

If you have been born again, you are blessed to have that love in you.  Bad attitudes, anger and all sorts of negative emotions can hide that love, but it’s there.  Will you join me in prayer for that love to be released instead of suppressed and that our spiritual family will be strongly united in that love?  It doesn’t matter whether you are Catholic, Non-Denominational, Baptist, Lutheran, Methodist, Presbyterian, Pentecostal or any other group that legitimately follows Jesus and lives His way of life.  Scripture says in 1 Corinthians 13, that without love, our speech is just noise.   With love, our speech can be a truly joyful noise that draws attention to our great God and those that are His.  Will you love one another today and every day from now on?

God wants us to love our neighbors as ourselves.  That includes spiritual family.  That’s today’s encouraging word.
