Will you heed God’s warning?

God has spoken through His prophets for millenia, and most of the time, people did not heed His warning. How about you? Do you embrace it when God points you in His direction, or is something standing between you and Him?

God pointed Pastor G and me to Jeremiah 25 and Hosea 4. Both contain accounts of God’s people not heeding His warning. If they had, what He warned would not have happened. The exile for 70 years would not have happened, and God’s chosen physical people and the surrounding nations would have continued to be blessed.

Hosea 4 contains the verse that showed His anguish, and it causes me the same. “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”. Lack of knowledge about what? About Him and His way. The people chose to construct and worship other gods and to disregard their creator and sustainer. They chose to ignore those He sent to help them get back on track.

What is an idol in your life? Do you worship money? Do you worship your possessions? Do you worship time focused off God and partaking of the ways of this world apart from Him? Only you know what your idol is, and only you can ask God to help you give Him the praise, honor, glory and devotion He deserves. God stands by so willing to forgive and to help. He wants you with Him for eternity, but He wants all of you now, the you that surrendered all that you are to Him when He first called you. If you are anything like me, you were so totally on fire for Him that nothing else mattered. I craved, literally craved, immersing myself in His word so I could live and learn His way. How about you? Has your passion for God diminished? What is the priority in your life? Is it about Him or is your life about you only with God sort of in the background?

God sent Noah to preach for a hundred years before the flood, and no one heeded. At the time Jeremiah spoke God’s word to the people in chapter 25, he had been faithfully doing so for 23 years. People didn’t listen to him, either. Will you listen to Jeremiah, Hosea and all of God’s prophets in scripture? Will you heed those through whom He speaks today? I pray you will, and I encourage you to go before His throne and listen, wait, for His answers, whether they come from Him directly, through scripture or even through someone like me.

God longs to have you with Him for eternity. Your heeding His warning is part of you doing what you can to be there with Him. That’s today’s encouraging word.

Very good. Thank you. We keep getting warnings, and warnings about warnings. Abraham heard God because He listened for God, and once He heard God He obeyed God. It’s a simple process. Not complicated. Humans have this incredible gifting—this great ability to cover things up, pay no attention to things that matter, and act as though there is no warning at all. A few get the message and MUST do something with it. But most seem completely unconcerned and oblivious. Not God’s fault. Never God’s fault. … “You mean that was You?” “Uh, YEAH…”
