A while back, Pastor G very generously shared a doozy of a chest cold cum sinus infection with me, and it took more time to recover than my impatient self wanted to give it. I’m sure you can relate, so I thought I’d do something helpful by sharing more from our inspired teaching “Encouraging Words for the Sick.”
Father God, I am discouraged because of the pain and discomfort from this illness. Recovery seems so far in the future. I ask You, Jesus, and God the Holy Spirit to minister to my discouraged heart along with my disease-ravaged body. Thanks for Your love, comfort, support and kindness. Thanks for being with me always and for loving me through this time. Thanks for sending me the help and encouragement I need to recover. Thanks for helping me to love myself enough to do the right things for myself, which includes being kind and gentle and patient. In Jesus’ name, amen.
Scripture: Psalm 119:49-50
Remember the word to Your servant, upon which You have caused me to hope. It was my comfort in my affliction, for Your word has given me life.
Sickness brings pain, suffering and loneliness. Because you may believe your experience is unique, you probably think no one understands what you are going through. Do you know that’s not true? God has given the gift of compassion to many, and, even if they don’t physically experience your pain or weakness, they are truly sorry for your suffering and want to be there for you.
Jesus wants to be here for you, too. He has a heart of compassion in addition to personal experience as to what pain and suffering feel like. Not only did He endure pain at the end of His life on earth, He also experienced the real pain of loneliness because His followers could not relate to what He was going through or support Him in His time of greatest need. He is always here for you.
How wonderful that the Word who became Jesus is not only our Savior and Lord but our Comforter as well. That’s today’s encouraging word.
